Straw Home Hawke's Bay

One bedroom cottage as trial:

 

The cottage was designed by Peter LeBon from CreateAvision Ltd. We built this one room cottage as a bit of a trial project for a future main house. In 2017/18 we attached the main house. (see Springfield Rd. main house).

 

Features:

• Concrete ring foundations with suspended timber floor.

• Timber post and beam construction with strawbales on their flat cut around the posts.  

• Clay locally sourced as basecoat on strawbales and as finish coat on the inside on straw and gib walls.

• Lime render as exterior finish and painted with Silicate paint.

• Windows and doors from local joiner in cedar.

• Roofing with cedar shakes and cedar barges and facings.
